General
Finishes - Salad Bowl finish
- Beautiful and safe
finish on wooden bowls, cups, spoons, countertops and butcher
blocks or any wood surface that contacts food.
- Easy to apply- just
wipe on with a soft clean rag.
- Achieves the sheen and
resistance of a varnish.
- Dried film is non-toxic
for food contact 72 hours after drying.
- A harder finish than the BB conditioner,
perfect for direct food preparation, but I prefer cutting on a
Howard Conditioned surface.
Minwax
oil based Polyurethane
- I always stain with a natural stain to bring
out the wood's natural colors.
- Polyurethane will protect your island's
surface and give it a glassy feel.
- Available in three sheens: Satin, Semi-Gloss
& Glossy
- I use only oil based since islands often get
wet. Oil based poly's will not break down when exposed to
water.
- I poly the entire island to completely seal
your island. This helps to prevent expansion & contraction
of the wood.
- A minimum of 4 heavy coats are applied to
the exposed surface.
-
Butcher Block care and maintenance:
- Wash occasionally with a damp, soapy rag and
wipe down with a damp rag.
- Note the appearance of your block at the time
of arrival. You will see when the block begins to dry.
- Apply conditioner or mineral oil as needed.
- The more treatments you apply, the longer
they will last between treatments.
- Treat all sides of your butcher block so the
wood remains consistent throughout, this will prevent warping.
- Never soak, or put in a dishwasher.
